Identify every material
Synthetic does not mean every part of the saddle is made from the same material. List the model and the visible leather sections, then find its care guide. Thorowgood publishes separate advice for its T4, T8 and T9 ranges, illustrating why the exact model is useful.
Do not apply a leather-saddle routine to the whole item. Keep separate instructions for attached leathers and other accessories.
Wintec's published example
Wintec's synthetic-care article describes cleaning with its saddle cleaner or mild detergent and water, using a cloth and a small soft brush for stubborn dirt, then rinsing. It specifies shaded drying in hot weather and a warm, dry place away from a fireplace in cold weather. Drying can take longer in colder conditions.
The maker gives separate instructions for leather girth points and wear patches. Its cleaner page says synthetic sections do not need oiling or waxing. Apply this guidance to the relevant Wintec materials; it is not permission to hose every saddle sold as synthetic.
Plan the drying space before you start
Check where the saddle will remain supported while it dries and whether that position blocks access for another rider. Arrange cleaning for a time when the saddle can remain out of use until it is ready, rather than beginning just before it is needed.
Keep a note of the exact guide you followed. When a part looks worn, loose or damaged, ask the maker or saddler about it instead of treating easy cleaning as evidence that the whole saddle is sound.
Our storage checklist helps plan the room and support. For mixed-material tack, label the relevant products so someone else does not apply leather balm to the synthetic seat by mistake.
Storage won't fix a saddle that doesn't fit. Have your saddle checked by a qualified saddle fitter (Society of Master Saddlers register), especially after it's been stored for a long time.
Damaged, mouldy or stiff tack can rub or break. Check stitching and leather before every ride, and ask your saddler or vet if your horse shows soreness.
